Game Jam Projects

Guardian of Time

Guardian of time was part of a game jam I ran for my YouTube channel called “Let’s Create Game Jam”

I wanted to develop a unique game mechanic where the level falls apart over time. When you defeat an enemy the time goes back up and the level pieces that fall apart come back into place. I also wanted to focus on a unique combat mechanic, throwing swords at enemies and having the sword come back to the player.

Work I did on Guardian of Time

  • All Level Design + Environment Creation

  • AI Programming with Behaviour Trees

  • Player Programming

  • General Gameplay Programming

  • Game Design

  • Level Falling Apart + Regenerating Mechanic Programming

Reflector

Reflector was part of a game jam I ran for my YouTube channel called “Let’s Create Game Jam”

I wanted to develop a unique mechanic where you can absorb projects and fire them back. You can also deflect projects or pickup environment props and launch them.

Work I did on Reflector

  • All Level Design + Environment Art

  • AI Programming with Behaviour Trees

  • Player Programming and Gameplay Programming

  • Game Design

Super Rolla Bird

Super Rolla Bird is a game I worked on in a small team for the TAFE NSI game jam. I worked on the design, programming, environment art, level design and lighting.

The idea is that you play as a bird that rolls around. Picking up collectables and avoiding hazards to reach the end of each level. Trying to use the rolling movement and momentum to get to the end of each level.

Nobi Sword
Nobi Sword was created for Ludum Dare 37. I love the game We Love Katamari and wanted to try take that concept of growing something bigger in order to get through a level.
I came up with the idea that each enemy defeated increases the size of your blade and when you defeat the boss in each level you unlock a portal to the next stage.
I worked on this one solo.

Lantern Quest

Lantern Quest was created in 7 hours as a personal game jam.
I was enjoying a game called Geometry Wars at the time with my friends. We really liked the Pacifism mode and that mode inspired me to create this. The Ghost and graves were inspired by Zelda Oracle of Ages
I worked on this one solo.

Sky Jump

Sky Jump was created for one of the TAFE NSI game jams. I worked on the Programming and Environments. It’s a platforming game with enemies, obstacles and platforms.

Planet Punch
Planet Punch was a game jam game I worked on with a team at a TAFE NSI game jam.
After the game jam i polished it up and presented it at Pax Aus.
I worked on the Programming, Environments and Shaders.

This is the old version from the game jam https://matthewpalaje.itch.io/planetpunch

I’ll upload the non-game jam version soon.
